DEXPO - MOOC is available for Educators

+

Although yet to be available on the project platform, DEXPO's MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is already available via a registration form! (Click Here)

Goals DEXPO:

-To develop critical thinking skills and media literacy in the fight against misinformation in the media about climate change and

- To produce educational methods for formal and non-formal educators.

DEXPO is motivated by the fact that there is a scientific consensus on the human contribution to climate change. However, there are many misconceptions and a need for more awareness of this issue, and we are seeing the spread of fake news.

Developing critical thinking skills and media literacy education are essential to enable educators and students to create appropriate and responsible responses to this issue on an individual and social level.

The MOOC comprises 4 modules:

Module 1 - The Changing Role of Teachers

This module is designed to help and guide educators to understand the changing role of teachers and the focus of schooling in the 21st century. How can teachers move from being holders of knowledge to organisers of learning? What is the role of Generation X and Generation Alpha pupils who have grown up in the digital world, and what skills do they need?

Module 2 - Introduction to Global Education

When we talk about Global Education, the debate can quickly get complicated. As you'll discover after completing this module, there are different definitions of Global Education. But it's not a case of feeling lost; it's simple, and you may have already used the Global Education approach in your work with students.

Module 3 - Climate Change in Education

This module is designed to help and guide educators working on climate change in the classroom. It is based on exploring the psychology of climate change, introducing communication strategies that effectively present the topic of climate change and offering various approaches, perspectives and teaching strategies.

Module 4 - Critical Thinking, Media Literacy and Fact Checking

This module is designed to help and guide participants and educators to reflect on climate change through education based on critically analysing the information presented in the media. We examine three critical concepts that should be part of the toolkit for those who wish to deal with the possibility of misinformation in the media: Critical Thinking (CT); Media Literacy (ML); and fact-checking (FC). The aim is to present these three concepts, show how they converge and how they can be used to make citizens more critical of the information they receive.
