Developing critical thinking and media literacy skills to combat misinformation in the media about climate change and producing educational methods for formal and non-formal educators are the main objectives of the European project. DEXPO.
Climate change is a global phenomenon that is the subject of intense debate in various public spaces, from the scientific level to the rumour mill. Developing critical thinking skills and media literacy education are essential for educators and students to create appropriate and responsible responses to this issue, individually and socially.
DEXPO is motivated by the fact that there is a scientific consensus on the human contribution to climate change. However, there are many misconceptions and a need for more awareness of this issue, and we are seeing the spread of fake news.
Thinking critically is crucial and more important than ever to increase motivation to fight climate change. Therefore, effective action against climate change is only possible with informed, educated and active citizens who are aware of their individual and joint responsibility in global processes and are ready to act. DEXPO wants to fight climate change by raising awareness and developing educators' knowledge and skills to teach about climate change. In this project, we focus on the professional development of educators.
Many educators feel ill-equipped to deal with sensitive and controversial issues, and many confirm that they need more training in climate change, media literacy and critical thinking. With this in mind, the future DEXPO platform, which is still in development, will provide various educational materials (exercises, a MOOC - Massive Open Online Course, various sources and videos) for intensive training on this subject.
This project will be completed by the end of 2024.
