DREAM – Digital Reality for Educational Activities in Museums

+

The DREAM project is a meeting point between two paths that have been taken over the last decade: the digital transition in culture and the flexibilisation of the curriculum in schools. In this encounter, the cultural mediator and the formal educator contaminate each other, each becoming the bearer of some of the other's competences, allowing for the creation of an environment favourable to innovation in both the educational and heritage sectors.

The material ambition of this initiative was to create immersive educational entertainment experiences, developed by teachers using digital collections with resources provided by curators. The creation of this mixed space, a hybridisation of school and museum in the digital sphere, was an undertaking carried out by a consortium of seven partners in four countries: Portugal, Italy, Croatia and Finland.

The Museater', the digital experience to be developed, is a fusion of theatre performance and guided tour, in a format that takes advantage of numerous digital formats, linking them to the tangible world through Augmented Reality technology.

In order to achieve its goals, DREAM has organised itself around three fundamental activities: defining a detailed methodology that sets out the ways in which schools and museums can collaborate and produce 'museaters', explaining step by step how the staging should be carried out; creating a digital platform that functions both as a repository for the museums' digital educational resource collections and the 'museaters' generated by educators; and developing a training process so that teachers can develop their individual 'Museater' projects with greater autonomy. The course for teachers, with local classes and common training moments for the groups from the four countries, focuses mainly on narrative skills, story creation and staging, and scenography.
