The first training session of the European project "Green Heritage - Nurturing a Sustainable Future in the Gardens of Time" took place at the BelĂ©m Library in Lisbon, in an event organised by Mapa das Ideias. The initiative brought together partners from various European institutions, including Maker Camp, the University of Primorska, the Academy of Applied Studies Polytechnic, Casa Ărabe, the Arheoloski Institute and the Ministry of Culture/Ostia Antica.
The main aim was to promote the exchange of good practices and the development of skills in heritage conservation and environmental sustainability. During the sessions, innovative methodologies such as Design Thinking and Future Thinking were explored, encouraging the creation of a community of practice focused on accessibility, gender equality, social inclusion, and sustainability.
The activities included a guided tour of the Belém Library, where director Filipa Barros highlighted the space's role as a community centre. The library's Green Card Profile was also presented, highlighting innovative environmental practices such as community gardens and sustainable barter markets. Participants also had the chance to take part in Green Card Speed Dating, a debate session on sustainable practices and the challenges faced by each institution.
Another centrepiece of the event was the Lightning Decision Jam, a dynamic exercise that stimulated reflection on facilitation methodologies for future training sessions. The next steps for the project were also discussed, including preparations for the next training, to be held in Rome under the organisation of Maker Camp, which will focus on training through digital games.
The training held in Lisbon proved essential for strengthening partnerships and exploring innovative approaches to valorising heritage. Future initiatives include the creation of the Green Heritage Good Practices Manual, led by Mapa das Ideias, which will integrate Minecraft as an educational tool and emphasise the role of young people in promoting sustainability. Green Heritage is thus a transformative initiative, contributing to a sustainable legacy for future generations.
