"Breve" about Cesário Verde

+

As part of the exhibition on the life and work of Cesário Verde, organised by Oeiras City Council, Mapa das Ideias made a 2D digital animation film about this poet from Oeiras.

Cesário Verde (1855-1886) created an innovative work that broke with his contemporary poetry. He dealt with non-poetic themes, focussing on prosaic aspects of everyday life; Lisbon was the main character in his poems. For this reason, his writing was rejected by critics and misunderstood by his peers. He was recognised much later, around 40 years after his death, with the posthumous edition of ‘The Book of Cesário Verde’ (1886). Fernando Pessoa called him a ‘master’.

The animated film "Breve" is a poetic narrative in which the tumultuous life and work of Cesário Verde intersect. The script is by André Oliveira, and the artistic direction is by Bruno Caetano from COLA - Colectivo Audiovisual.
