The Sesimbra Coastal Cultural Centre hosted the conference “Museums, Arts and an Ideal Grocery Store”, an event dedicated to reflecting on the role of museums in promoting sustainability and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. The initiative, set against a backdrop of great cultural and scenic wealth, highlighted the importance of museums as agents of social change, preserving memories, stimulating critical thinking and fostering a conscious connection between communities and their cultural and natural heritage.

One of the central focuses was the creation of the SDG Museum Network, an initiative of Mapa das Ideias, to strengthen the integration of sustainability into museum strategies. This network aims to be a platform for cooperation between museums, promoting projects that align heritage preservation with the global goals of the 2030 Agenda, such as climate action, gender equality and social inclusion.

The program included presentations and discussions with experts in museology, conservation and research, promoting sharing experiences on the challenges facing cultural institutions in the face of global change. The event also highlighted territorial transformation processes, focusing on the impact of exhibitions and educational projects in raising awareness of environmental and social issues.

The meeting reinforced Sesimbra's role as a centre for cultural dialogue and innovation, and an example of this was the inauguration of the Ideal Grocery, restored with its original furniture, now a stage for local memories and stories, representing products that enhance the territory, such as canned fish and Cezimbra wine. It was an enriching day full of sharing, where ideas, stories and inspirations came together for a more sustainable future.
